J. Robert Lamade
VETERAN
J. Robert Lamade, aged 85, passed away on Monday July 30, 2007 at Sycamore Manor.
Born February 9, 1922 he was the son of George R. and Margaret Hays Lamade. He was a life long resident of Williamsport.
He is predeceased by his wife of 58 years, Joanne “Johnny” Gerber Lamade in November 2006.
Mr. Lamade had the honor of serving his country during WW II as a B-24 Bomber pilot with the 445th Bomb Group, 703 Squadron based in Tibenham England.
After the war he returned to his family’s business and served as Vice President of Grit Publishing Commercial Printing. Following the sale of that business he served on the board of directors for Lamco Communications.
He was a life long member of the Fraternal Order of Masons and attained the award of 33 degree after which he served a term as Commander in Chief of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite. He was also a Past Williamsport School District Board Director, a past President of the Board of Directors of the James V. Brown Library and was a past President of the Board of Directors of the Park Home, as well as a life long member of the St. Mark Lutheran Church.
A long time activist with local charities and community organizations he was previously recognized for his service as a recipient of the Brotherhood Award from the National Conference of Christians and Jews and the United Way award.
Mr. Lamade was a life long golfer and a member of the Williamsport Country Club. He was also a member of the Ross Club. He enjoyed squash, bowling, bridge and poker, family games and reading throughout his years.
He is survived by his children, Anne L. Pikolas of Lewes, Delaware, Margaret “Meg” Beckerman and her husband Paul of Crofton, Maryland, Michael K. Lamade and his wife Jill of South Williamsport and John “Chip” Lamade and his wife Kathi of Williamsport and seven grandchildren.
Family and Friends are invited to visit on Thursday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the James C. Maneval Funeral Home, 500 West 4th St., Williamsport. Funeral services will begin promptly at 11 a.m. on Friday in the funeral home. Internment will follow at Wildwood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers Mr. Lamade’s family suggests you make a contribution to your favorite charity or group to honor his past commitment to community involvement and charitable works.

Joanne G. Lamade
Joanne G. “Johnny” Lamade, 83, of Williamsport, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 5, 2006, at Sycamore Manor Health Center. She was the wife of J. Robert Lamade, with whom she shared 58 years of marriage. They were wed on Dec. 27, 1947.
Johnny was born on Dec. 2, 1922, in Reading, PA, and was the daughter of the late John A. and Ann E. Page Gerber.
She was a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church of Williamsport for 58 years.
Johnny served as past president of the Williamsport Home. She was a member of the Williamsport Hospital Auxiliary and was the first woman to be appointed to the Board of Managers at the Williamsport Hospital. She served on the Board of Managers for 21 years.
Johnny also enjoyed reading and traveling with her husband.
Johnny is survived by her husband, J. Robert Lamade; two daughters, Anne L. Pikolas of Lewes, Del., Margaret “Meg” Beckerman (Paul) of Crofton, Md.; two sons, Michael K. Lamade (Jill) of South Williamsport, John G. “Chip” Lamade (Kathi) of Williamsport; a sister, Patricia McKernan of Williamsport; and by seven grandchildren.
A brother, Thomas P. Gerber, predeceased her.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Johnny’s visitation on Thursday, November 9, 2006, from 10 to 11 a.m. at the James C. Maneval Funeral Home, Ltd. “A Life Celebration Home,” 500 W. Fourth St. Williamsport. A Life Celebration service will follow on Thursday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Maurice C. Frontz III officiating. Interment will follow at the Wildwood Cemetery in Williamsport.
In Johnny’s memory, a memorial contribution may be made to the Kathryn Candor Lundy Breast Health Center 1705 Warren Ave., Suite 303, Williamsport, PA 17701.
