Genealogical Research

Welcome to my genealogical research pages.  I do my own research as well as offer some genealogical acts of kindness in certain local cemetery lookups and "for-fee" research.

I have been researching my family's history for over twenty years and have discovered many facts and surprises along the way.  It is very difficult to limit my research to only my family.  As I searched for information, I found many marriages led to other families and eventually back to my family.  I had a difficult time settling upon a title for my database, so it has become Families of Lycoming County (Pennsylvania).  My research is certainly not limited to Lycoming County as the families grew and married, they became dispersed into Sullivan and Columbia Counties and points far beyond.

My research began with the Smithgall family, mostly due to the proximity to my childhood home in Eldred Township, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania.  Little did I know that my paternal  great-great grandparents were buried in the cemetery adjacent to my father's farm.  Other prominent families include the Egli, Fry, Winder, Sharr and Holdren families in the area.

My family lines originate in Germany, Scotland, Switzerland and Poland.  My husband's lines are Italian.  We have traced our families back nearly 500 years in some cases.

I also thought it would be interesting to research the Waltz family, who built my parents' house and farm in the 1850's.  There are several marital connections to my family here as well.

To date, there are over 22,000 individuals in my database.   I have made every attempt to annotate and reference my source materials.   I cannot promise that every piece of data is completely accurate, as I rely on the research of others in remote locations.  I do validate the research of others whenever possible.  I always welcome any additions or corrections.  Please ask me before copying large pieces of my database.

Recently, I have acquired some of the original volumes of the Now and Then publication, a quarterly magazine sponsored by the Muncy Historical Soceity, which was founded in 1868.  This publication disseminated information on the happenings mainly around eastern Lycoming County.   I am in the process of condensing some of the vital records from this publication to make available in database on this website, hopefully before the end of 2008.

One other note, I am a member of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR). Click here to see my list of Patriots.

I have transcribed several cemeteries fully or in part. These transcriptions can be found by following this impending link.

I have attempted to refrain from making reference to personal information to those who are known to be living out of respect for their privacy.   I also try to follow the 72-year guideline set forth by the United States Census bureau for release of information on the living.  The 1940 census is set to be released in 2012. Please fill out the 2010 census when it arrives in March!

Over the years, I have listened to many stories from my family and I would like to retell them here.  Click on the links of the family stories that are of interest to you.  Please feel free to e-mail me if you have any questions, stories, corrections or facts to add.
